The Bea Hive and Shoes for Salsa Dancing is a family owned business. It was founded by Beatrix Dozier which has owned and operated the Bea HIve for over 4 yrs now. Our dance shoe business started out as selling some things around the house on ebay to having a full store online selling dance shoes and dresses, doing outdoor dance events such as the Salsa Congress and other related activities. It then moved into the living room of her house for about a year. Many of our loyal customers shopped in Bea's house in the past to buy dance shoes and clothing. She was forever looking for a good place to put the retail store because it was definitely growing out of the house.. It just so happened that she worked out at the 24hr fitness gym in Garden Grove. She has worked out there since it was in the smaller space across the parking lot and moved to the bigger space to make it a sport center. That was over 12 yrs ago. The old 24hr fitness gym was vacant for over 6 yrs. One day while leaving the gym, the door to the old gym across the parking lot was open. She wandered in and had a vision. That vision took about 9 months to become a reality and another 4 months for renovation and actually opening the store and dance studio. She has had all the odds stacked against her since day one but has managed to survive.
Beatrix could of never accomplished any of it without the help of her family and friends.Phillip has shown dedication and loyalty that goes above and beyond anyones call of duty. His family has been helpful, kind and supportive of her and everything she does. Ariel, her youngest daughter, will hopefully be the future owner of the venue when she is old enough to care about it.
For those of you that don't know, Beatrix is a registered nurse and maintains a part time job in a hospital working in a cardiac cath lab. She is ACLS certified and will save your life if you decide to have a heart attack in the studio. (nursing humor). The Bea Hive name came from her coworker Mike as he poked fun at the very thought of her opening a dance studio. He said "Oh sure, what are you gonna call it? The Bea HIve". And the name was born. Catchy isn't it? Thank you Mike.
The Bea Hive is now a permanent fixture in our community and is known in the salsa world as the place to learn to dance and get quality dance shoes at affordable prices. Come in and check us out. We are in the process of remodeling the inside of our studio to make it a nicer, even more beautiful place to be.
